Mother's Mercy Season Finale

So I haven't written in ages because I've been swamped lately.  But the GOT season finale has to be talked about.

Spoilers ahead!

I would have to say the highlight was definitely Arya Stark kicking butt and risking it all.  It was also a great twist to fake out the death of her mentor.  This story has had so much buildup that it was getting boring but the payoff was so satisfying, I don't think anyone can complain.  On top of it, it leaves you desperate to know what happens next as Arya is just as desperately confused why she's going blind and screaming what's happening?!

I should say that the desperate to know what happens next was something I felt throughout the episode.  Theon coming to his senses and killing off the annoying Ramsey pet was very satisfying.  I am curious now that they escaped Winterfell, what happens to them.  Boltons are not going to let that go lightly.  Now that was probably all the good parts of the episode.

I have to say that I thought I would enjoy watching Cersei's torture punishment as she returns to the castle and I have not been a fan of her by any means but I honestly find the crazy zealots to be so much more annoying.  It was immensely satisfying to see her locked up when she thought she had the upperhand but it was another thing to have to watch scene after scene of the nuns goading and attempting to brainwash her.  I am actually looking forward to seeing her dish out her vengeance.

Watching the interchange with Jaime and the princess before her poisoning was not only predictable but just so sad.  The moment of the parting kiss, you knew she was poisoned in my opinion.  And so far in the books, every time there's a realization of ultimate happiness or relief for a character, that's usually when there's a major death a few moments later.  That is also what leads me to just skip to the chase and talk about the death of Jon Snow.  Yes, I could go on about the Dany meeting Dothraki or Stannis' "death" (I suspect that he might have survived, if only because we didn't see the actual head roll like Ned Stark, but it's a coin flip)... but what everyone is really speculating is about Jon Snow.

There's multiple theories out there of the aftermath after Jon's stabbing... that Jon will survive the wounds, that Jon doesn't survive the wounds but is resurrected via Melisandre, White Walker or as his Dire wolf.  So I'll throw one more theory into the pot, that it was all just a vision that Melisandre has or is showing Jon Snow so that he can preempt the traitorous Watch Knights.  I haven't read the books but I have been following where the discrepancies may be and now I understand why everyone is so eager for the next book.  Apparently Jon's stabbing is exactly where George Martin left his last book off at.  I definitely don't think they would kill off Jon, unless they're ready to give up on their viewers because fans will definitely stop watching the show if Jon dies.  At most, they might just tune in for the Dany parts or read summaries like this one.

GOT S5 E5

To start off with some humor:
Game of Thrones Poor Fiance Choices

Now onto the discussion of the actual episode
So many things happened this episode... and yet now that I have had time to digest it, it seems that most of this episode was just setup for later drama.

Do not read on if you don't want spoilers.
We begin with the beginning of the episode which was focused on the mourning of the death of a character that I have heard was not in the books.

I can't say that I was as attached as Daenerys to Barristan but it was a great catalyst to this:

It was great to see her other dragons in action again, I have to say that her keeping them locked up seems both sad and unlike how I imagined her character to be.  So it's great to see that she is making good use of any prisoners or people she doesn't like for pet food.  I also like seeing her vengeful side as it shows she's not always a scared little girl like she was when she seemed afraid of her own dragons.
Now onto my other favorite character, Jon Snow.  Tyrion round out my top 3 of course.  Jon Snow is finally showing more of his position and influence along with his compassion for people.  It has been quite interesting to see him interact with Stannis.  I really did not care for Stannis but he has really grown on me.  But the fact that I like him more now just means that he's likely to be killed off.

How could you not love the softy?  But I have to say that I think everyone feels like Daenerys and Jon are destined and considering how they are both learning how to rule with internal conflicts over their decisions seems to be growing pains that they experience at the same time.  I don't see Cersei or Stannis even feeling as bad over their decisions or conflicted half as much as those two do but I suppose that's also because they're used to this Game.

Brienne, she was much more likable when paired with Jaime.  Now I'm really not sure what she's there for...  But I suppose that's part of the entire setup story.

Is it bad that I like Ramsey and that he amuses me even though he is pure evil and a sadist?  I'm not sure why but he's so much more entertaining than Joffrey even though they're both villains.  Perhaps it is because how he seems so completely desperate for his father's approval, which makes him less one dimensional.  Or that he has these dark humor moments like the now "let's cut the tension" dinner conversation.  Is it bad that I kind of want Sansa to actually fall in love with him to see him turn good?  Though it is interesting that she just went from one bloodthirsty fiance to another...  Well, with Tyrion as a husband sandwiched in the middle so I guess she had one decent almost spouse?  Yes, I almost forgot that happened also.

Speaking of Tyrion, they finally got off that boat.  As I mentioned, this episode has been just a buildup episode to setup for the future.  Daenerys' part was to finally get control of her mini kingdom and set up for the gladiator battles.  Jon Snow segment was for his venture to save the Wildlings and maybe bring forth the zombie story finally.  Afterall, how long has winter been coming for? Stannis and Ramsey heading towards each other in epic battle I expect.  And of course, Tyrion and rock diseased Jorah finally getting to Daenerys.  Sidenote: beautiful picture of the twosome on the right.

GOT Disney Crossover 1 Daenelsa

In honor of the new episode of Game of Thrones coming out tonight and the fact that I just watched Frozen for the X (lost count) time.  For mother's day I bring you Daenelsa, Mother of Ice and Dragons.  I figured since it's my first one, I can play around with the color and photo style effects.  I'll try to do better ones in the future:

New GOT blog

So I've been blogging about a mix of everything that I like but I've realized that I tend to want to focus on anime in my main blog and really the kind of fun new projects I want to do with Game of Thrones episodes and images really does deserve its own blog.  So over the next couple of days I'll first be transferring over some older posts to this site and then adding new episodes, images, reviews as well.  I'm actually behind one episode recap and review already and I just started this project!  Sigh... Well, hopefully this new blog will mean a new start with more on time blog posts and more interesting pictures and reviews!
